Construction Site Delivery Checklist for Accra Contractors

The delivery is not complete when a truck reaches the road outside a site. Contractors must plan safe access, a clear unloading zone, labour, checking and storage before materials arrive.

Confirm access and a safe unloading zone before materials leave the supplier.

A practical delivery-control checklist for contractors receiving materials at busy or difficult Accra construction sites.

Check the route into the site

Measure the gate and note sharp turns, parked vehicles, overhead lines, drains, soft shoulders and unfinished roads. A vehicle suitable for the material may still be unable to reach the intended unloading point.

Give CargoMov the exact site pin plus written access directions. If the last section is unsuitable for a heavy truck, select a safe transfer point and plan the smaller vehicle or handling method in advance.

Reserve an unloading window

Coordinate the supplier, truck, site supervisor and lifting equipment around one realistic window. Do not schedule several large deliveries into the same narrow space. Protect neighbours and road users from unmanaged reversing or roadside unloading.

Nominate a trained banksman where vehicle movement requires guidance. The driver should stop if the manoeuvre is unclear rather than relying on conflicting signals from several workers.

Prepare labour, equipment and storage

Confirm whether the site provides helpers, a forklift, crane, wheelbarrows or lifting straps. Clear the route from the truck to storage and keep cement, electrical fittings and finishes protected from rain and ground moisture.

CargoMov booking details should say who loads and unloads. This avoids the common situation where a vehicle arrives but nobody is available or authorised to handle the goods.

Close the delivery properly

Count items against the order and note visible damage before acceptance. Photograph the load and storage position, and identify shortages immediately. Do not leave valuable materials exposed simply because the transport portion has ended.

Use the delivery record to review supplier readiness, transport timing and site waiting. The results will improve scheduling for the next phase of the project.

Frequently asked questions

Who should guide a truck into a site?

Use one competent, visible banksman and a clear agreed signal method. Keep other people outside the manoeuvring area.

What if the site road is too soft?

Choose a safe unloading or transfer point. Do not pressure the driver to enter ground that may trap or destabilise the vehicle.

Can CargoMov handle repeat site deliveries?

CargoMov can support repeat transport bookings; keep each load, date, vehicle and handling requirement accurate.
