Pickup, Van or Truck? How Agents Should Match Cargo to a Vehicle

Ask what is moving, how many items there are and whether the goods are packed. Measure the longest, widest and tallest items where practical. Get reliable weight information from the supplier or product documentation when possible. Do not turn an unknown weight into a confident number merely to fill the form.

A pickup can be useful for some smaller loads, while an enclosed van or box truck may better protect suitable goods from weather. Larger furniture or stock may need more floor area or height. These are starting points, not fixed capacity guarantees: vehicles in the same category can differ.

Confirm the actual vehicle's suitability with the approved operator. A load can run out of space before reaching the weight limit, or exceed the weight limit while appearing to fit. Never solve a capacity problem by overloading, stacking fragile items unsafely or letting goods obstruct the driver's view.

Ask whether the vehicle can enter, turn, stop and load at the pickup and delivery points. A warehouse yard and a narrow residential lane can impose very different constraints. Gate width, overhead clearance, ground condition and safe parking matter just as much as distance.

Record the number of helpers requested and what they are expected to do. Confirm whether stairs, long carrying distances or heavy lifting are involved. Do not assume the driver alone will carry every item, or that an extra person automatically makes a difficult lift safe.
