Keep business deliveries moving after a vehicle breakdown with a prioritised rescue load, safe cargo transfer and clear customer updates.

Your delivery van is off the road, but the orders are already packed. One customer is waiting for shop stock; another has arranged people to unload. Repairing the vehicle and rescuing today’s deliveries are now two separate jobs.

Backup truck rental in Ghana can help a business manage that interruption. The aim is not simply to find another vehicle. It is to move the right goods, from a safe collection point, with a revised plan everyone understands.

Decide which deliveries actually need rescuing

Do not automatically transfer the entire day’s workload to a replacement truck. Start by separating urgent orders from deliveries that customers can accept later.

For each urgent order, record the goods, package count, destination and latest workable receiving time. Call the receiver to confirm that someone will still be available. A truck arriving after the receiving team has left does not solve the interruption.

For example, a wholesaler in Tema could prioritise stock needed for a customer’s next opening day while rescheduling a non-urgent warehouse replenishment. This is a planning example, not a promise of same-day vehicle availability.

Choose a safe transfer point, not just the nearest truck

If the original vehicle is stranded, first establish whether the goods can be collected safely. Do not improvise a cargo transfer in moving traffic or ask a replacement driver to work in an unsafe loading area.

Where practical, arrange transfer at a yard or another suitable loading point. Share the actual location, access restrictions and the person authorised to release the goods. Vehicle recovery and repairs should be arranged separately unless they are expressly included in the service.

Tell the truck provider whether cartons are still inside the original vehicle, already unloaded, or ready at the warehouse. That detail changes the labour and equipment needed.

Give the replacement driver a rescue brief

A useful request explains what has changed. Include the remaining load, its dimensions and weight, required weather protection, pickup contact, delivery contacts and any unloading deadline. State whether helpers or loading equipment must be supplied.

The replacement does not have to be the same truck model as the unavailable vehicle. It must be suitable for the remaining cargo and the destination’s access. Confirm usable load space and payload with the provider rather than judging capacity from a photograph.

Keep the transfer record separate from the original dispatch

Count packages as they leave the original vehicle and again as they enter the replacement. Photograph visible damage before the transfer, and identify the person checking each count.

If only some orders move, record exactly which ones. Keep a note linking the original dispatch to the replacement delivery so your team does not later mistake the two journeys for duplicate orders.

Update customers with the revised arrangement. Use an estimated arrival window, and explain when the next update will follow. Avoid promising an exact time before the replacement vehicle and loading plan are confirmed.

Measure the cost of the interruption

Record the replacement transport charge, extra handling and any agreed waiting separately from the original vehicle’s repair or recovery costs. This makes it easier to understand what the disruption actually cost.

After delivery, review what caused the delay and whether a standing backup routine would help. Keep a reusable rescue brief, an up-to-date receiving-contact list and clear responsibility for approving replacement transport. Prepared information is more useful than starting every emergency with a vague request for “any truck.”

Arrange the cargo journey through CargoMov

When requesting a replacement delivery on CargoMov, describe it as a backup collection and include the real loading situation. Review available driver offers against the rescue brief, not price alone. Availability, suitable capacity and timing must be confirmed for the specific booking.
